OF PALO
The town of Palo, known as the seat of the Archdiocese celebrated its 176th Fiesta Celebration on August 6 solemnizing the Transfiguration of Our Lord. The Celebration was highlighted by a Pontifical Concelebrated Mass presided by His Excellency the Most Rev. Jose S. Palma (Archbishop of Palo). Bishops and priests from the suffragan Dioceses also graced the occasion. The Holy Eucharist commenced at 9 o'clock in the morning at the Palo Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lord's Transfiguration.
The Archbishop accentuated in his homily the two great celebrations that the Church (through the leadership of the Pope) had decreed for observance, that is, the Year for priests and the Year for the Alliance of the Two Hearts. He also expressed onece more his desire to initiate intense renovation of the Cathedral's Stuctures which is in continued deterioration through the passage of time. As a support to the Archbishops desire the family of the late Atty. Jesus and Mrs. Caridad Velasco - the Hermana Mayor for this year, pledged 2 million pesos to start the project.
The Seminarians of the St. John the Evangelist School of Theology were given the honor of to acting as servers on the Celebration. Since it was declared a homevisit of seminarians the PALOMANS (the seminarians belonging to the Archdiocese of Palo) represented SJEST on that religious endeavor.
